FAQs for HVAC CONTRACTORS
What size crane do I need for my HVAC unit?
The crane size depends on the weight of your unit and the height/reach required. Most residential and light commercial RTUs (up to 5 tons) work well with our 20-30 ton truck cranes. Larger commercial units (7.5-25 tons) and chillers typically require our 40-60 ton all-terrain cranes. During consultation, provide us with the unit weight and building specifications, and we’ll recommend the right equipment.
Do you provide operators, or can I use my own?
For safety and efficiency, we provide Union Local 150 certified operators with all our crane rentals. Our operators have 25+ years of experience and specialize in HVAC equipment installations. If you have a qualified operator, we can discuss rental options based on your project’s specific needs.
What information do you need for an HVAC crane quote?
To provide an accurate quote, we need: the weight and dimensions of the HVAC unit, building height and rooftop access requirements, job site address for access assessment, whether this is a removal, installation, or swap-out, your project timeline, and any site obstacles like power lines or adjacent buildings. Photos of the building and current equipment are also helpful.
How far in advance should I book for an HVAC installation?
We recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance for planned installations and replacements. For seasonal peak times (spring and fall), earlier booking ensures availability. We also understand that HVAC failures happen unexpectedly, and we maintain availability for emergency service calls when equipment is available.
Can you handle same-day or emergency HVAC replacements?
Yes! We understand that HVAC failures can’t wait, especially in extreme weather. While we can’t guarantee same-day availability, we do our best to accommodate emergency situations. Contact us immediately when you have an urgent need, and we’ll check our equipment availability and work to get you scheduled as quickly as possible.
What happens if the unit doesn’t fit or there’s an issue during the lift?
Our experienced operators conduct pre-lift planning and site assessments to identify potential issues before the crane arrives. If unexpected challenges arise during the lift, our operators are trained to problem-solve safely. We work closely with your HVAC crew to ensure proper positioning and will make adjustments as needed to complete the installation successfully.
